Who is Veerle?

Veerle graduated as a clinical animal behaviorist at the Odisee College.

She also trained as a shelter volunteer with the Flemish government, and is continuing her training with separate modules at Toscanzahoeve and Felinova.

Her passion for shelter animals was born while volunteering at the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter in California. To this day, she faithfully walks the dogs of the Mechelen Animal Shelter every Friday.

She herself has two elderly black cats.

Veerle and her plush friends Wolf and Blackie, as “pet whisperers”, are happy to help you train your pets for a more pleasant environment.

  • separation anxiety
  • inappropriate jumping
  • tugging on the leash
  • excessive barking
  • chasing cyclists and joggers
  • peeing in the house
  • inappropriate play behavior
  • scratching furniture
  • teaching a reliable recall
  • introducing a new pet

Consultations always take place at your home in the animal’s familiar environment .

Our mission

My mission is to train pets so they do not end up in shelters, and to train shelter animals so they can  find forever homes.
Many behavior problems are actually normal behavior for the dog or cat, but become a problem in our human world.

For example, jumping is a normal greeting behavior for a dog, and scratching – a tree or a piece of furniture – is a way of communication for a cat. But we don’t like having dirty dog paws on our clothes, or a frayed couch.

Sometimes the behavior is problematic for the pet itself, think of the dog who suffers from separation anxiety or the cat who goes bald because they grooms themselves too much due to stress.
Often, pets end up in the shelter because of a behavior problem that is perfectly curable or preventable.

On the other hand, shelter animals are sometimes not adopted because they exhibit behavior that is not acceptable in a domestic setting.
